Agnes A. Root, 74, of Ashland, NE, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Southlake Village in Lincoln, NE. She was born May 20, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA to Sam and Agnes Marie (Carreras) Hicks. In 1964, Agnes graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia, PA. She worked many years for the State of Nebraska Department of Corrections.
Agnes was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ashland, NE. She was a very social person that loved people. Agnes loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally and she was their biggest supporter.
She is survived by her children, Ginny (Eric) Bergmark of York, NE and Shannon (Blaine) Flamig of Ashland, NE; grandchildren, Alexandra (Alexander) Adams, Shayne Christensen, Mikah Flamig, Ella Flamig, Jonas Bergmark and Rubi Flamig; great-grandchildren, Peter Adams and Graves Flamig; sisters, Sr. Marion Hicks, Peggy Gallagher and Bernadette Hicks; many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, June Preston.
Although we were cousins, I haven’t seen Agnes for many years. I remember her as a sweet younger cousin who had a beautiful smile. I could not envision her working in the Department of Corrections but apparently she did an excellent job. My condolences to her children, grandchildren and great grands.
