Alfred “Al” Glen Ekstein, 69 of Ashland, NE, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha. He was born April 18, 1945 in Pauline, NE to Ernest and Mary (Parker) Ekstein. On July 24, 1966, Al was married to Jane Boomer in Hastings, NE. He served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. In 2004, Al and Jane moved to Ashland, NE.
Al was a hardworking man that loved his family. For over 15 years, Al owned and operated an upholstery business in Altoona, IA. This was a family business that brought many good memories. He was also an over the road trucker for 15 years until his retirement in 2005. Many people knew Al, in bib overalls, driving around town in his tractor collecting cans and scraping metal. He loved having coffee with friends and telling stories to anyone that would listen.
He is survived by wife of 48 years, Jane Ekstein; children, Glenda (John) Wood of Omaha, Gregory (Samantha) Ekstein of Eldora, IA, Mundi (Michael) Tonsfeldt of Ogden, IA; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Ekstein of Kansas and Paul (Joleen) Ekstein of Bennet, NE; sister, Iva Mae Poland of Hastings, NE.
Preceded in death by son, John Ekstein, daughter, Patricia Ekstein; parents, Ernest and Mary Ekstein; brothers, Daniel and Ronnie; sister, Mary Rose.
Pastor Lori Morton will be officiating the service.
I am so sorry to hear about alfred. it’s been a long time but i always had fond memories of you and your family.our deepest sympathy and love. sue ekstein and family.
So sorry for your loss. You are great friends. A lot of memories from Altoona Iowa. Al will be greatly missed by all.

Sorry for your loss. Uncle Alfred is with the Lord and not in pain. He would make me feel better on bad days. We thank him for his serving in the Marines. I will miss him. We will keep the family in our prayers while they struggle with their loss.
