Cheryl A. Reisen, 56 of Ashland, NE entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, NE.  She was born October 14, 1962 in Lincoln to William and Ilene (Mick) Aerts. She attended a country school in David City for grade school and graduated from David City Aquinas Catholic High School in 1980. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for two years where she joined the Willard Sorority.  Cheryl was united in marriage to Rodney Reisen at St. Francis Catholic Church in David City, NE on August 18, 1990.  In 1995 Cheryl and her family moved to O’Neill, NE where they lived for 5 years before moving to Ashland.

Over the years Cheryl worked for, and helped with many organizations. Early on she was a state officer for the Jaycees, and later became involved with the Ashland Chamber of commerce where she served as the chairman of Stirrup Days for 7 years. Cheryl was also a parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashland, where she was involved in the Altar Society and worked as the director of religious education for 7 years. Additionally she spent time as a speaker and educator for the American Heart Association and Women Heart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart disease. Over the last few years, she had the opportunity to work in the community in many aspects working as the manager of the Ashland Golf Club swimming pool for two summers, before working at Blackwell’s Fine Supply for the last year.

She enjoyed shopping with friends and family; cooking meals to share with others; sewing and making costumes for the theater department at Ashland-Greenwood; planting and growing flowers each spring and summer; making arts and crafts by painting, and crocheting; and helping with recital each year at First Position Dance Studio. Additionally, she was incredibly proud of her recipes and the community’s enjoyment of her special spaghetti sauces she made each year for the St. Mary’s Spaghetti dinner in the spring. Cheryl loved seeing the neighborhood children running around throughout the year, and always looked forward to Halloween when she could see everyone and hand out treats and toys for each of them.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Rodney Reisen; children, Matt Reisen, Amy Reisen, Aspen Reisen and Jake Reisen; parents-in-law, Chuck and Janice Reisen; sisters-in-law, Renee (Brett) Linder, Christy Reisen; seven nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ilene Aerts; infant children, Nathan and Kimberly; brother-in-law, Rick Reisen; cousin, Jolene Fichtl.

    Rod & Children,

My heartfelt condolences to you in the loss of your wife and mother. Cheryl was a free spirit who put all of her heart and soul into the things she believed in and loved, but nothing lifted her spirit up more than talking about her children and her husband. She leaves life on earth way too early, but you are her legacy that will carry on. I knew her in the Jaycees when she was part of an unbelievable team in 1989-90 through a theme of Conceive, Believe and Achieve when we took home the national championship trophy. She worked very very hard to help make that happen and cared a lot about the people and making a positive impact on our communities. May God Bless your family and help you through the challenging days ahead. The first line of the Jaycee Creed, is “We Believe that faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life”. Cheryl lived that belief. RIP our friend.

Rod & Family, Sorry to hear about the loss of Cheryl. I always enjoyed the brief conversations w/her @ the Annual Spaghetti Dinner. The Class of 1980 has many good memories of Cheryl. We’ll never forget when she hosted the New Year’s Eve “Gathering”. Her personality gave good meaning to The Spice Of Life. Cheryl’s Family/Religious/Civil Involvement will be deeply missed. Thoughts & Prayers.

Dear Rod and family, I was saddened to hear of Cheryl’s passing. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I was fortunate to visit with Cheryl 3 years ago, but unfortunate that I missed (forgot) the dinner date she had set so I could see Rod also, my fault and I will forever regret the forgetfulness of that day. Hugs to you Rod.

Dear Rod and family, we are just sick about the loss of such a vibrant and fun woman as Cheryl was! We also knew Cheryl through Jaycees and she was a hard worker. We worked hard and played hard!! We were so happy for her when she found you, Rod, and were blessed with a wonderful family. We are not surprised at how much she did for the community. She will be greatly missed. The last line of the Jaycee Creed, “that service to humanity is the best work of life”!! She certainly lived it! Please know how sorry we are and that we are praying for all of you!!
