Jay J. Hicks, Sr., 84, of Ashland, NE, entered into eternal rest on February 11, 2019 at his home surrounded by family in Ashland, NE. He was born July 30, 1934 in Omaha, NE to Ivan and Ruth (Johnson) Hicks. Jay graduated from Creighton Prep High School in Omaha, NE. He served his country in the U.S. Army until he was honorably discharged in 1958. On May 14, 1960, Jay was united in marriage to Mary Alice Macaitis at Assumption Catholic Church in Omaha, NE.
Jay worked as a truck driver for many years, logging over 5.5 million miles. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ashland and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, golfing, gardening and caring for his horses.
He is survived by wife of 58 years, Mary Hicks; children, Jay (Connie) Hicks, Barb (Bob) Davis, Kathy (Roger) Pike, Mary (Tim) Robbins, Amy (Stan) Stohlmann and Ivan Hicks; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Geraldine Russmann, Joan (Terry) Holmes, Alan (Diane) Hicks, Rosie (Denny) DeYoung, Mary (Joe) McLaughlin, Paul Hicks and Andy (Theresa) Hicks; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by son, Michael Hicks; parents, Ivan and Ruth Hicks; sister, Emily Bever.
We spent many hours at horse shows over the years with Jay and his family.
I am saddened to hear of Jays passing. I know he will be missed greatly by my family. Hugs to you all.
