Joanie D. (Odvody) (Styskal)Machacek, 82, of Weston, NE, entered into eternal rest peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Oxbow Assisted Living Center in Ashland, NE. She was born October 8, 1937 in Prague, NE to Fred and Helen (Vaca) Odvody. On April 30, 1981, she was married to Robert J. Machacek at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Weston, NE.
Joan was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, St. John PCCW and she had several places of employment. One she admired the most was working her last18 years of employment at the Saunders County Court House, because she was such a people person. After retiring, Joan loved to bake and she baked often for her family. She really enjoyed her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She also enjoyed playing cards, golfing and Big Red sports.
Joan is survived by her husband of 38 years, Robert Machacek; sons, Steve (Sandy) Styskal of Lincoln, NE, Richard (Anne) Styskal of Lincoln, NE and Jeff Styskal of Cook, NE; daughter, Rose (Steven) Nadgwick of Weston, NE; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Marge (Don) Kemerling of Grand Island, NE; brother, Gary (Rose) Odvody of Texas; many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Styskal; daughter, Barbara (Jim) Vasa; grandkids, Matthew Styskal, Joel Styskal and Amber Styskal; parents, Fred and Helen Odvody; sister, Nadine (Odvody)(Masek) Bly.
We would like to give a heartfelt thanks to many loving caregivers and staff members at UNMC and Oxbow Assisted Living Center. Thanks to all of the Horizon Hospice Team of Lincoln for their professional and compassionate care.

To all of my family our deepest sympathy. Sorry we aren’t able to attend because of the corvid 19 pandemic. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all today and always. May you rest in peace my beloved sister.😓
My sympathies to the family. Joanie always greeted me with a smile and a kind word. She and Bob visited my dad when he was sick. Arnold was very appreciative of that kindness also. I have missed seeing her and Bob at church in Weston. Will says prayers for her and for all of you. God Bless!
My sincere sympathy to the family. 🙏
To the entire Styskal family. I am so sorry for your loss. I have always enjoyed Joan’s sense of humor and just who she was as a person. You all were very lucky. With prayers to all. Sincerely Mary
Joanie had the biggest smile and voice to be heard when the whole family would get together on the farm. I never thought anyone would make an “honest man” out of my Uncle Bob Machacek. She will be missed so much….
She always greeted me with a hug.
RIP Joanie.
To Bob & all of Joanie’s family – Our sincere sympathy in the passing of Joanie – we didn’t know her long as Bob & Joanie were our breakfast, lunch & dinner partners at Oxbow Living Center for a short few weeks. She was always a very positive person and very caring about everyone from just knowing her for a short time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob & all of Joanie’s family.
Warm regards,
Gene & Mary Roncka

Just read in the obituaries that my very good friend, and former employee, JOANIE MACHACEK,
passed on to her heavenly home.
Joanie was a very special person in my life.
A truly sincere and honest lady, who loved
all people.
I will miss hearing her voice in person and
on the phone.
May God Bless her soul, and may she be in Heaven with her Lord, Jesus Christ.
My condolences to her entire family, her
church family, and everyone who knew
this wonderful lady.
Very sincerely,
Jim Fauver
To Bob and all my Cousins So very sorry to hear about Joanie. She’s flying with the Angels now. I always enjoyed seeing and talking with Joanie. She always had a kind and caring way of cheering a person up. She was a pistol in the greatest respect of the word. And that big beautiful smile will be remembered and missed by all.
I know Joanie will be missed terribly. She was always so kind and enjoyable to be around. I will not forget the time I surprised Joanie by bringing Grandma (Helen Kaspar) to Weston visit Joanie. Joanie was so surprised and talked about that day every time I saw her. Rest in Peace, Joanie!
We give our deepest condolences! Loved hearing Joan’s voice. Our family will miss the echo of her laugh(when we’re made her)and the spit fire stories she shared! Our love and hugs goes out to all of the Family.
