Joan R. Ballard, 75, of Greenwood, NE, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at her home in Greenwood, NE.  She was born September 1, 1942 in Lincoln, NE.  Joan attended Lincoln High School.  On March 27, 1959, she was married to Melvin Ballard in Lincoln, NE.  Joan worked for 15 years with Telex until she retired in 2006.

Joan enjoyed bowling and she was an avid reader.  She was a former board member and one of the founders of the Greenwood Public Library.  She was a longtime member of the Greenwood Rescue Squad.

She is survived by children, Tom (Connie) Ballard and Julie Ballard; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Melvin Ballard; daughter, Laurie Ballard; great-grandson, Tristan Gagner; mother and step-father, Helen and Billy Hough; brother, Tom Bergman.

    What a wonderful lady she was,she was like every greenwood kids second mom,RIP Joan we will miss you,you will be in peace with your true love,ya know that crazy guy we call Mel.
