Joel Robert Styskal, 25 of Lincoln, NE, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at his home in Lincoln. He was born February 5, 1989 in Fairfield, TX to Jeff and Mary (Lanik) Styskal. He graduated from Utica Centennial High School in 2008.

Joel competed for several years in the Special Olympics. He was an avid Husker football fan and he loved Lil Red. Joel knew all the sports team’s mascots and he took interest in knowing the commentator’s names of big games. Spending time with his nephews Blake and Haven, his buddy Paxton, and his grandma always made him happy. He enjoyed talking with his family on the phone every night and his favorite saying usually came out; “are you kidding me”. He was a happy person that loved life.

He is survived by parents, Mary and Bill Phillips of Seward and Jeff Styskal and special friend Kathy Smith of Lincoln; brother, Seth (Hannah) Styskal; grandparents, Godfrey and Joyce Lanik of Ceresco, Robert and Joan Machacek of Weston, and Betty Phillips of David City; nephews, Blake Styskal and Haven Canby; step-brother, Joseph Phillips; step-sisters, Anna Phillips and Angela Phillips; extended family, Josh, Krystal, and Paxton Holmes of Lincoln; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by brother, Matthew Styskal and grandfather, Robert Styskal.

Rev. Joseph Bernardo will be the celebrant.

I had the pleasure of working with Joel thru Centennial schools work program. It was probably better for me than it was for Joel. What a wonderful person. We used to talk about football, maybe even betting a pop or donut on the game, he did love donuts!!! The world is gonna miss him, and if God isn’t a Husker fan……..he soon will be!
