Joseph R. Cihal 90, of Malmo, NE entered into eternal rest Saturday, January 5, 2019 at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo, NE.  He was born August 22, 1928 in Malmo, NE to Stanley and Marie (Cerny) Cihal.  Joe was a graduate of Malmo High School and attended college for one year before joining the U.S. Navy.  He entered the U.S. Navy on March 25, 1946 and was honorably discharged January 27, 1948.  On June 29, 1950 he was united in marriage to Gladys Chmelka in Wahoo, NE. From this union five children were born, Connie, Chuck, Claudia, Curtis and Craig.

Joe farmed most of his life in the Malmo area.  He also worked at the Sale Barn in Wahoo, driving maintainers with Newmann Township, working construction for Shanahan Construction in Prague, driving truck for Hauschild Trucking in Malmo and driving for Busy Wheels in Wahoo.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colon, Knights of Columbus, Livestock Feeders, Soybean Association, American Legion #232 and the Malmo Volunteer Fire Dept.

Joe was a handy-man of different trades, he enjoyed building and remodeling houses for his family.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gladys Cihal of Malmo; children, Connie (Hal Rabat) of Adams, NE, Chuck (Rogene) Cihal of Lincoln, NE, Claudia (Larry Veskrna) Beasley of Wahoo, NE, Curtis (Jodi) Cihal of Colon, NE and Craig Cihal of Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Doron, Chad, Kyle, Ryan, Chris, Aaron, Melissa, Tyler and Zac; 15 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Marie Cihal, brothers, Stanley and Raymond Cihal; sister, Mildred Lanik.

    Joe was a gental and wise soul. I will never foget his humanitarian spirit. He believed in doing right by everybody. A truer, kinder-hearted man can not be found.
