Marlene Gay Mink, 78 of Greenwood, NE, died Saturday, May 2, 2015 in Lincoln. She was born July 12, 1936 in Lincoln to Gayle and Margaret (Erickson) Fleischmann. She graduated from Lincoln High School and University of Nebraska Lincoln. On August 5, 1956, Marlene was married to George Mink in Lincoln.

Marlene was the first rest area greeter on the Interstate when she worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. She was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and a past member of Jobs Daughters. Marlene participated in many Bible studies and encouraged many in their faith. She enjoyed watching and supporting her children and grandchildren in whatever activities they were involved in. Marlene was a diabetic for 71 years. She was a willing participant in diabetic research treatments such as hot and cold Retinopathy treatments and was one of the first people to have a pancreas only transplant. Throughout those years, she helped many people through diabetic support groups.

She is survived by husband of 58 years, George Mink Jr.; sons, George (Julie) Mink III of Greenwood and Randy (Brenda) Mink of Ashland; grandchildren, Zachary (Kerstin) Mink, Ryan (Lacey) Mink, Danielle Mink, Andrew Mink, Mackenzi Mink; great-grandchildren, Drennen Hall and Victoria Mink; sister-in-law, Sally Fleischmann.

She was preceded in death by parents, Gayle and Margaret Fleischmann; children, Melisa Gay Mink, Mark Gregory Mink, and John Eric Mink; brother, Gary Fleischmann.

    So sorry for your loss! I enjoyed sitting ahead of your folks in church when we would come to father’s day services! Thinking of you, as we lost our dad at about the same time. Prayers and God Bless!
