Robert Joseph Meduna, Sr., 76, of Wahoo, died on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at his home near Wahoo. He was born on June 8, 1938 to Albert and Anna (Bouc) Meduna of Weston, Nebraska. Bob graduated from Wahoo High School in 1956 and married the love of his life, Dorothy Marie Lavicky, on September 23, 1961 at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight, Nebraska. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2011 surrounded by family and friends.

Bob and Dorothy made their home on a farm near Wahoo, raising grain and livestock, and worked together to build their family farm. Bob worked at Commonwealth Electric Co. in Lincoln from 1956 to 1988. He served his country in the Nebraska Air National Guard from April 1959 through April 1965. He remained active with the Weston Legion Post 308, was Post Commander in 1998, and especially enjoyed the honor of decorating veterans’ graves with flags each Memorial Day.

He loved fishing in Canada and traveling with Dorothy. They were interested in history and proud of their Czech heritage, and made several trips to the Czech Republic, which they enjoyed sharing with their family and friends. In addition to farming and working in Lincoln, Bob also sold Pioneer Seed for 26 years, enjoyed his antique tractors, and served his community as board member for schools, Rural Fire District, and the Lower Platte NRD. Bob and Dorothy were active members of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church for over 50 years.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Martha (Brabec) Lavicky, and brother-in-law Fred Lavicky. He is survived by his four children: Barbara (Mike) Vanek, Marian Meduna, Paula (Dave) Lawrence, and Robert (Tricia) Meduna, Jr.; and grandchildren: Christine and Michael Vanek, Ryan and Michael Meduna-Gee, John Robert Meduna-Haddad, Katelyn, William, and Jenna Lawrence, and Michael, Kjia, and Shea Meduna. Also surviving are his sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Lloyd Benal; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Jean Lavicky; and sisters-in-law Helen Lavicky, Dee Volkmer, and Donna Richtsmeier; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

We were deeply saddened of the shocking news of Bob’s sudden passing. Visited with him last Spring, and know he was sorrowing deeply about Dorothy’s passing last December. Losing both parents in less than one year would be tough on any family.
We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers. Life is not fair sometimes, but really believe Bob and Dorothy are in heaven
strolling the streets of gold with their Lord Jesus Christ.
