In Care of the Family

Sandy K. Whitehead, 46 of Ashland, NE, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at her home near Ashland. She was born December 19, 1968 in Omaha, NE to Thomas and Mary (Holm) Lee. She attended Wann District 20 country school and she graduated from Ashland-Greenwood High School in 1987. On September 12, 1998, Sandy was united in marriage to Brian Whitehead at the American Lutheran Church in Ashland. In 2002 they were blessed with their son, Brayden.

Sandy worked for Ashland State Bank after high school, until she started a 26 year career with Werner Enterprises. Her career led her to Atlanta for a year until she moved back to Ashland. Sandy also helped her husband with their catering business, BW’s Smokehouse and Catering.

Sandy loved photography, scrapbooking, camping, and boating on the river. She enjoyed her garden and flowers. Watching her son’s sporting events always made Sandy proud. She was very involved in the Ashland baseball program and she was one of the founding members of Jays for Hope. Sandy enjoyed being around people, but most of all she loved being a mother.

She is survived by husband, Brian Whitehead; son, Brayden Lee Whitehead; mother, Mary Lee; one sister; grandmother, Olga Holm: parents-in-law, Paul and Jackie Whitehead; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Amy Whitehead; nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She was preceded in death by father, Thomas Lee; her maternal grandfather and her paternal grandparents.

I grew up with Sandy just down the road past Clear Creek. She babysat us as kids, worked alongside my sister at Werner, and always took the time to see me during my rare visits back home. She was an all out caregiver who took great care of her family and the community. I never thanked you enough for that! RIP Sandy Lee! We all love you! Peace and guidance through this trying time. A very special friend. We will always remember the fun when you lived close to us in Douglasville, GA. You were always more a daughter than a friend. Watched out for you while your Mom and Dad so far away. Then how you watched out for us when we went to Omaha, you always made us feel welcome to your family and friends. Will miss you so much until we meet you again. Love you Sandy. Prayers and Thoughts to Brian, Brayden and Mary Lee.

Brian and Brayden. I can not find the words to tell you how i feel. Sandy was one of the sweetest, and yet strongest people i have ever known. She used to bring Brayden in for preschool with tears in her eyes. So did Brayden. He always cried to begin with and then he and I found “our place” of comfort. After all that he just came in and sat on my lap or right next to me. No more tears. No tears for Sandy either. She always thanked me for caring for Brayden and i was so glad to make Sandy feel better. You were blessed with the best wife in the world. I and Harold were about same age as you guys when i lost him, best husband in the world. It hurt so bad I didnt think i would ever make it. But i am here and still going. You and Brayden will too. Though it will be the hardest thing to ever go through, you will make it. Time helps,.If i can ever do anything for you or Brayden, I am always around….just yell. My heart aches for you and Brayden. I will keep you in my prayers. GOD Bless Sandy and may she rest in the arms of Jesus.

Brian, I am so sorry for your loss of Sandy. I regret that I didn’t really know her back in school. Clearly I missed out on knowing a very beautiful person. I can’t imagine what you’ve been going through, but I have been praying for you and Brayden, for peace to get through each day.
