Thomas “Mike” McLaughlin, 70, of Ashland, NE, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in Omaha, NE.  He was born November 29, 1947 in Sterling, IL to Charles and Ruth (Welton) McLaughlin.  Mike graduated from Central High School in Omaha, NE and later received his Master Degree in Architecture from UNL.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged.  Mike was married to Joanne Barna and together they had two children, Thomas and Jeff.  On November 28, 2010, he was married to Linda Hitt at the United Methodist Church in Ashland, NE.

Through the years, Mike worked for Lueder Construction as a construction manager, ZBM as an architect, Davis Erection as a construction manager and HDR as an architect.  Most recently he worked as a construction manager at Methodist Hospital on the surgical wing.  Mike was a proud Eagle Scout and spent many hours helping the Boy Scouts.  He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and he was a talented artist.  Mike was very service oriented and when he retired he insisted on helping someone in need every week, free of charge.  He was a member of United Methodist Church in Ashland and a former trustee of the church.

He is survived by wife, Linda McLaughlin; sons, Thomas A. McLaughlin of Lincoln and Jeff (Andrea Walker) McLaughlin of Jonesboro, AR; grandson, Elliot McLaughlin; brother, Pat McLaughlin of California.

He was preceded in death by wife, Joanne McLaughlin; parents, Charles and Ruth McLaughlin; brother, Anthony McLaughlin; sister, Suzanne Keeney.

    Goodbye Mike, I will miss you and already do. I will always remember our chit chats and the time we spent in Ireland. Your artwork along with Tweedledee and Tweedledum will live on in your name. Rest In Peace, wonderful buddy!!

    Peace to you Mike. I remember our backpacking trips across Isle Royale, especially that first trip in 1999.

    Our deepest sympathies to the family. Bill and Brian often remembered fondly all the many Boy Scout camping trips, most especially to Philmont. Mike will be missed.
