Lance Randall Bower, 63 of Ashland, NE, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, January 4, 2015. He was born July 13, 1951 in Lincoln, NE to Everett and Marjorie (Schrader) Bower. Lance graduated from Ashland-Greenwood High School in 1969 and then in 1973 he graduated from UNL with a degree in Ag-Economics. On September 16, 1978, he was united in marriage to Mary Goldenstein in Sterling, NE.

Lance worked in the agricultural field his whole life, starting out on the family farm in Ashland. For the past 20-plus years, he has worked for the USDA as a farm-loan officer. Lance enjoyed gardening, spending time at his workbench, and being surrounded by family. He maintained a positive outlook on life despite having to overcome lifelong health obstacles, and the premature loss of many close family members.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Bower; daughter, Andrea (James) Anderson of Shawnee, KS; sisters, Marla Osterberg of Lincoln and Corliss Clark of Ashland; 9 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Everett and Marjorie Bower; brother, Seth Bower; brother-in-law, Lloyd Osterberg; and sister-in-law, Ann Jacobson.

Pastor Andrew Moyer will be officiating the service.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss! He was such good man, which is very much reflected in you, Andrea & Mary!

It was such a comfort to me having you all be at the Med. Center at the same time as Mom & Dad with Dad’s kidney transplant. Knowing that you all had been there and had overcome it helped give me hope.

Your family remain in our prayers during this difficult time. We love you!

Lance was our ringmaster. He organized fort building, jumping out of barns into stacks of hay and,of course our elaborate canal systems. Lance led his cousins in fun as kids and showed us what it meant to gracefully bear burdens trusting in Christ. I will miss you here but I will see you again in Heaven. Kim

    Mary, Andrea, and Family,
We send our deepest sympathy to you and your loved ones. Lance was such a wonderful person and father to little Andrea! I spent a lot of time at their house growing up, playing with Andrea, and chatting with Mary. So many wonderful memories!
May God keep you close in his arms and bless you with strength, peace, and comfort during this difficult time. Lots of hugs and prayers sent your way. Love to you
