Jesse “Jake” D. Winters, 85 of Ashland, NE, died Monday, November 7, 2016 at Holmes Lake Manor in Lincoln, NE. He was born October 2, 1931 in Sprague, NE to Walter and Pearl (Bernal) Winters. Jesse graduated from Sprague-Martell Central High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1954. On July 15, 1952, Jesse was married to LaMoyne Obermeyer and they had five children: Dallas, Kirk, Jolene, Melody, and Holly. Jesse was married to Donna Lind on November 21, 1970 and to this union two children, Steve and Rhonda, joined Jesse’s family. Jesse worked for National Crane in Waverly for over 20 years until his retirement.
Jesse was a member of American Lutheran Church in Ashland and the VFW in Denton, NE. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, dancing, woodworking, and country music. He always took pride in his peonies and rose bushes.
He is survived by children: Dallas Winters of Pleasant Dale, Kirk (Denise) Winters of Lincoln, Jolene (Terry) Siedhoff of Lincoln, Melody Winters of Lincoln, Holly Newland of Lincoln, Steve (Marilyn) McClatchey of Greenwood, and Rhonda (Bert) Biede of Ashland; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Marg, Rosie, Marsha, Gwen, and Bunny.
He was preceded in death by wife Donna Winters; parents Walter and Pearl Winters; sister Sheri Bertwell; infant brother; son Scott McClatchey.
Peace and Prayers to Jess’s family. Keep the memories you have close to your heart. Loved to hear his stories,and he had many.

We never met, Jessie, but I do take note you were a veteran of the Korean War — the war we don’t hear much about. I was in Vietnam. I have known Korean vets who struggled with what we call today PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). There was no help for you guys in ’54 so you were left to deal with the haunting memories & nightmares by yourself and with your buds down at the VFW. Others, for the most part, just didn’t understand. I’m glad you’ll have military honors at your burial. You deserve it. All you Korea guys deserve it.
Jess’ family…Our deepest condolences to all your family at this time…You had a pretty awesome father …Have known Jess for a few years and he was a very very nice man…He is now in the arms of Jesus and back with Donna…God bless each of you as you mourn your loss…and cherish those awesome memories..
