Bennett K. Bornman, age 89 of Ashland, died Dec. 15, 2013 at the Oxbow Living Center in Ashland. He was born Sept. 21, 1924 on the family farm south of Ashland to George Sr. and Lucy (Keller) Bornman. While growing up there he attended a nearby country school. After finishing the eighth grade, he had to quit school to help his family with the farm work. He was united in marriage to Doris J. Jones on Sept. 8, 1945 in Marysville, Kansas. They lived on a farm across the road from his parents and he continued to farm and also drove a rock truck for the rock quarry. They moved to Omaha in 1956 and he worked at EZ Parking and Burlington railroad for a few years. He then began working at Western Electric where he stayed for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1986. He and Doris had moved to Thomas Lakes in the early 1970’s and later moved into Ashland in 2006. He had lived at Oxbow Living Center since October of 2009. He had been a member of the Congregational Church and the German American Society.

Bennett adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were a great joy to him. He was a gentle, sweet man who was kind to everyone. He was a fantastic dancer and loved music, fishing, hunting, gardening and woodworking. He enjoyed being with his family while watching Husker football games. He always loved going out to the farm and seeing the crops. He loved his Oxbow family of friends.

He is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Kathy Goolsby, Omaha,NE, Judy and Ron Renner, Louisville, NE, Cindy and Rich Odermatt, Elkhorn, NE; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister Eleanor Miller, Ceresco, NE; sister in law, Ruth Jones, Ashland; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; grandson, Kirk Odermatt; brothers, George Jr. and Herbert Bornman.
