David Curtis Holman, born July 25, 1948, passed away on September 24, 2024, at 76 in Lincoln, NE. Born in Hendricks, Minnesota, he grew up on a farm near Astoria, South Dakota, where his love for nature began. After high school, he took a memorable motorcycle trip to California before returning to the Midwest. In 1971, he married Martha Owen, and they raised four children: Ginger, Kari, Eric, and Anne. The family lived in Madison, SD, before relocating to Ashland, NE.
David cherished his role as “Papa” to his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. Professionally, he served as parks superintendent in Madison, SD, earning the city a Tree City USA designation. Later, as the Ashland-Greenwood School District’s maintenance supervisor, he focused on improving facilities and transportation safety. His diverse hobbies included woodworking, winemaking, guitar, photography, and weekend farming, and he had a deep interest in WWII history.
David was a beloved figure not only within his family but also across the communities he enriched. He is survived by his wife, Martha Holman; his daughters, Ginger (Michael) Calkins, Kari (Luke) Foote, and Anne (Jesse) Weins; his grandchildren, Emma, Owen, William, Thomas, Elizabeth, Arthur, and Eli; and his sisters, Lois (Larry) Benson and Judy (Kim) Peterson.
