Dorothy J. Novotny, 86 of Colon, NE, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo. She was born July 29, 1929 in Loma, NE to John F. and Marie (Divis) Houdek. Dorothy graduated from Wahoo High School in 1946. She graduated from Midland College in Wahoo then started teaching country school near Valparaiso. On November 3, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Leroy D. Novotny at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colon.

Dorothy worked for the Colon post office for many years and she served several of those years as the Postmaster. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colon and she was a member of St. Ann’s Sodality.

She is survived by children: Connie Howie of Colon, Don (Donna) Novotny of Wahoo, Doug (Viv) Novotny of Colon, Leroy (Lorre) Novotny of Colon, Annette (Wade) Stewart of Wahoo, Marcia (Sharlene) Triplett of Lincoln; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; brother John (Mary Lee) Houdek of Brighton, CO.

She was preceded in death by husband Leroy D. Novotny; son Adolph Novotny; sister Geraldine Fiedler.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Novotny, John Novotny, Tim Novotny, Kyle Stewart, Marc Stewart, Jacob Stewart, Seth Stewart, and Brandon Triplett.  Honorary pallbearers will be the great-grandchildren.
