Earlyne V. Kuhns, 81 of Ashland, NE passed away Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE. She was born July 27, 1942 in Omaha, NE to Earl and Vera (Cunningham) Case. She was a graduate of Nebraska City High School. On July 16, 1960, she was united in marriage to Bernard Kuhns at St. Paul Evangelical Church in Plattsmouth, NE. From this union three children were born, Toni, Kevin and Kathy.
In her earlier years, she owned and operated the Dairy Cone in Ashland. She worked at Hy-Vee in the Deli Department and as well as a bookkeeper for 25 years. She finished her career at Centennial Bank in Ashland after five years.
Earlyne was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Ladies Aide and American Legion #129 Auxiliary. She enjoyed being outdoors, walking, bike riding, fishing, and mushroom hunting. She had a passion for Husker football and volleyball and enjoyed traveling. Some of her favorite places were, Hawaii, Paris, Amsterdam, Germany, Corpus Christi, Puerta Vallarta, Branson, Georgia, and South Carolina. Most of all she enjoyed a good meal while spending time with her family.
Earlyne is survived by her daughters, Toni (Jeff) Nietfeld and Kathy (Rolando) Reyes; daughter-in-law, Kristi Kuhns; grandchildren, Mark (Katie) Nietfeld of Lincoln, Abby (Beau) Chase of Ashland, Melissa Nietfeld and special friend George of Syracuse, Michael (Heather) Reyes of London, Robert (Perla) Reyes of El Paso, TX, Jerald Kuhns and Justin Kuhns of Broomfield, CO, Michael Flewelling of Tecumseh, Bryant (Cassie) Flewelling of Papillion and Matthew Flewelling of Tecumseh; great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Barrett, Blair, Daxton and Zoey with two more expected soon.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera (Clyde) Rakes; father, Earl Case; husband, Bernard Kuhns; son, Kevin Kuhns; brothers, Charles Case, William Rakes; sisters, Nancy Rogers, Janice Agnew; infant great-granddaughter, Rose Nietfeld.
Toni and Kathy. Your mom is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever know. Always a smile and a hug. Peace to all of you knowing that she is in such a wonderful place.

Earylyne was a wonderful woman and she will be missed. Memories of a lot of great times going to the horse track and playing cards and having a really wonderful time with her. So sorry for your loss.

I had the honor of meeting your mother when I went to Oxbow to visit my aunt. They both were at the same lunch table. Every week I would bring a list of funny “tidbits’ or funny facts that I would read to them during lunch. Your mother would frequently come up with a funny response that would have us all howling in laughter!! She was a pure joy!! Always smiling, very kind and thoughtful. I will truly miss her but I am forever blessed to have the honor of meeting her!!
Kathy, Toni and family so sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. She will be missed by many. We will think of her every Nebraska game we watch and every mushroom hunt we venture on. Our deepest sympathy to you all.
I am so sorry to hear about your mom’s death. I used to work with Earlyne at HyVee and we had a LOT of fun!! She was a great lady and I am sure you all will miss her. Thinking of you and your families. Lori (Heisler) Goc
