Eugene Bench, 92, of Lincoln, formerly of Greenwood, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He was born August 13, 1921 in Edgemont, Arkansas.  He worked as a machinist for many years and was handy at many trades.  Eugene was a World War II veteran who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and dancing.  He volunteered weekly at a local food net.  He led an active life even as his health declined and in his later years, he enjoyed playing pool, checkers and Bingo.

Eugene was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Ruth; his parents, and son, George.

He is survived by brother Utah Bench of Rosebud, AR, daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ray Tarver of Bellevue, NE; daughter, Virginia; son, William of Decatur, Texas; adopted son, Daniel Lee of Maryville TN; adopted daughter and son-in-law, Tari and Ray Petersen of Taylorsville, UT; step-daughter, Linda Holt of Lincoln; step-sons, Ronald and Duane Baursach, both of Lincoln; step-daughter, Janet Holder of Columbus; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and caregivers.

    Our hearts ache over the loss of our good friend and neighbor Eugene. He was taken from us before the Lord took him from us. We surely miss his company. Forever he will be in our thoughts and prayers Amen. Till we meet again. It doesn’t end with goodbye. It begins with HELLO. We love you R.I.P Nik, Heather Savanna and Dylan Root
