Frederick Eugene Ready, 71 of Greenwood, NE, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at his home.  Fred was born October 19, 1941 in Broken Bow, NE to Ralph and Frieda (Reitz) Ready.  He attended Broken Bow public school graduating in May of 1959.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September of 1959 and served on the USS Stoddard DD566, a WWII destroyer, for three years and was released from active duty.  He served the Naval Reserves until October 1965.

Fred married Joan Hann on November 24, 1965 in Broken Bow, NE.  In 1967, Fred was employed by the State of Nebraska as a Carrier Enforcement Officer, based in Ashland, NE.  His division was transferred, in 1985, to the State Patrol.  Fred was promoted to Sergeant in the Patrol as training officer for the Carrier Enforcement Division.  In 2000, Fred was promoted to District I Lieutenant, which he held for four years until his retirement.

In 1975, Fred was born again by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and living for Him.  Fred loved to study God’s word and it was said he only read one book and that was the Bible.  He served the Lord as a lay preacher and Sunday school teacher.  Fred was a stand-in for preachers of several churches as well as the churches he attended.  He preached at a rest home in Lincoln for four years, before Fred and Joan started going south for the winter where he preached and taught God’s word in campgrounds.

Fred is survived by his wife, Joan of Greenwood; sons, Jeffrey Lynn Ready of Lincoln, Rodney Eugene (Diane) Ready of Callaway, NE; daughter, Michele Sue (Joel) Stewart of Greenwood; grandchildren, Jada and Kayla of Greenwood, Grant of Callaway, and Kaitlyn of Mankato, MN; brother, Ralph (Delores) Ready Jr. of Merna, NE; many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Fred was preceded in death by his parents.
