George J. Wonka, 88 of Weston, NE entered into eternal rest Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.  He was born November 21, 1933 in Weston, NE to John and Alice (Meduna) Wonka.  George graduated from Weston High School in 1952.   He was united in marriage to LaVerne Leitgeb on August 31, 1957 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Weston.  George served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged from his service on May 6, 1955.  George owned and operated Wonka Oil & Feed and G&G Backhoe for many years. George was a family man who loved his country, his community, and baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was a lifetime member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1833, American Legion Post #308, 40 & 8 Voiture 1018 & Weston Volunteer Fire & Rescue for 42 years.

George is survived by his children, Gregory & Beth Wonka, Katherine & Timothy Vasa, and Barbara Wonka-Vasa. Grandchildren John (Jonella) Wonka, Alexandria (fiancé Alex Bialas) Wonka, Max Wonka, Adam (Amber) Janecek, T.W. (Jen) Vasa, Samantha (Clint) Vandenberg, Paul (Luci) Vasa, Chris (Rayna) Vasa, Betsey (Cassidy) Zwiebel, and Ben (fiancé Lindsey Hartshorn) Vasa. Great-grandchildren Paxton, Tucker, & Carter Janecek, Vincent & Spencer Vandenberg, and Harper, Grayson & Graham Vasa, J.J. & Jemma Wonka, Zyiah Wonka, Emberly & Cecilia Zwiebel, Joseph, Claire & Elias Vasa and one more great-grandchild on the way.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Betty Jurgens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Alice   Wonka, wife, LaVerne Wonka.
