Herman Hank Gakemeier, 73, of Springfield, NE, entered into rest on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy in Omaha, NE.  He was born October 7, 1950 in Omaha, NE to Richard “Dean” and Ruth (Vosler) Gakemeier.  Herman graduated from Ashland High School in 1968.  He received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln.  On April 16, 1977, Herman was united in marriage to Margaret Galindo at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Murdock, NE.

After Herman and Kitty were married, he started a 21-year career working for the Greenwood CO-OP.  He worked for Claus as an assembly technician for 17 years until he retired.  Herman was a past member of the Murdock Vol. Fire Dept.

Herman enjoyed their trips to Germany and boating in the Ozarks.  He had a good sense of humor, and he was always willing to help friends with any project.  He enjoyed working in his garage and having a beer with his friends.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret “Kitty” Ann Gakemeier; children, Tina (Danté) Caliboso and Bill (Denise) Phillips; grandchildren, Cameron Lyle and Cody Caliboso; siblings, Linda Tiedeman, Richard “Mo” (Jo) Gakemeier, Melody Chapman and Velvet Gakemeier; nephew, Travis Chapman; many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Dean” and Ruth Gakemeier; sister, Destiny Frerichs; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Chapman.
