Iva “June” Scheel, 88 of Ashland, NE, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Ashland Care Center. June was born June 3, 1925 in Louisville, NE to Clifford and Aurilla (Matteson) Geyer. She graduated from Louisville High School in 1943. After high school, she went to work as a clerk at the draft office in the Pentagon during WWII. On January 15, 1945, June was united in marriage to Walter Scheel at Fort Smith, Arkansas.
June was a Sunday school teacher and a cub scout leader. She was a member of the First Christian Church for over 60 years and she was active in the American Legion 129 Auxiliary. She was a past member of the Eastside Women’s Club and the Wann Ladies Aid. June was known for her famous apple pie. She loved to read, but most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Scheel; son, Eric Allen Scheel; parents, Clifford and Aurilla Geyer; sisters, Alma Ryan and Doris Allen.
She is survived by children, Clif Scheel of Omaha, Martin Scheel of Lincoln, Kevin (Celia) Scheel of Apple Valley, MN, and Alice (Don) Veskerna of Ashland; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Brinton of Lincoln.
Prayers to the family at this time of sorrow, we will pray for comfort at this difficult time. Spent many times with June at Legion Auxiliary function, many good memories !
