Larry Dean Westling, 59, of Ashland, passed away at home on June 18th, 2016 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 12, 1956 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Albert and Betty (Richmond) Westling. He graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1974 and attended Southeast Community College.
On June 15, 1989 Larry married Michelle (Anderson) in Lincoln, Ne. Together they raised five children; Kari, Sara, Jeremiah, Landan, and Montanna. He enjoyed playing cards, working outside, swap meets, old cars, and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Above all, his biggest love was spending time with his family.
Larry was a dedicated, hard worker throughout his life. His jobs included: Hy-Gain Electronics 1974-1978, Kawasaki 1978-1981, Burlington Railroad 1981-1983, and Nebraska Tubing 1985-1986. In 1986, Larry started working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber. While there, he made lifelong friends and truly loved going to work. In December 2015, Larry retired after 29 years. He was also a member of First Christian Church in Ashland.
Family members include his wife of 27 years, Michelle Westling; daughter, Kari Shaw of Lincoln; daughter, Sara (Guy) Horn of Fort Dodge, IA; son, Jeremiah (Sheena) Tripp of Lincoln; son, Landan (Amber) Westling of Ashland; and daughter, Montanna Westling of Ashland. Grandchildren include; Codey, Colten, and Caden Shaw of Lincoln; Hunter, Eden, and Emerie Horn of Fort Dodge, IA; and Locke and Aniston Westling of Ashland. Great-Grandchildren Easton and Maverick Shaw and Kinslee Shaw, all of Lincoln. Brothers; Ernie Westling, Rick Westling, Danny Westling, David (Diane) Westling, all of Lincoln; Lonny (Anna) Westling of Lynchburg, VA; sister, Carol (Allen) Toman of Excelsior Springs, MO. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Betty Westling and baby sister Debbie Westling.

We are filled with sorrow as we received the news of Larry. He will always be remembered as akind and gentle person who could always find good in tuff situations. He had a great sense of humor with his flare to tease and poke fun, but it was always to lighten the heart. We are praying for you all. May Gods angels be with you to lift you up.
Sorry to here about your loss. Larry was always such a joy to work with. Always had a positive attadude and was just a great person to be around. He sure will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. I grew up with him in Havelock as well as my siblings with his older sisters. Sending prayers to the family and may the thoughts and prayers from his friends bring the family comfort knowing that he is responsible for a lot of great childhood memories.

I do not know if I can make the family greeting tomorrow night. But please know that I am thinking of all of Larry’s family.I have known the Westlings for decades and have very fond memories of them.

Michelle and family: Just wanted to let you know how sorry we were when we heard about Larry. My husband and I both enjoyed being around him in the Goodyear plant. He always had a way of making bad things seem not so bad and always had a big smile on his face. I’m glad that he is finally at peace…he had done enough!!!
