Margaret Johanna (Sullivan) Peterson, 100, of Wahoo, NE, entered into rest on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at her home in Wahoo, NE.  She was born in Mead, NE on April 28, 1922 to Owen and Hilder (Sward) Sullivan along with her twin brother, John.  There were eight children in her family.  She graduated from Mead High School in 1940.  On June 12, 1946, she married Donald F. Peterson in Marysville, KS.

She worked various jobs during WWII in Mead including waitress and checker.  After the war ended, she worked at the Ordinance Plant in Mead for the Army Engineers, working with German POW’s that were housed there.

She moved to Wahoo from Mead as Don worked for the City of Wahoo and had to live in the city.  They started their family with a daughter, Cindy in 1947, but she died in 1952.  Sons John, Douglas, Duane (died in 1963) and William “Bill” were added to the family.

She worked in many businesses during her years in Wahoo and was always a very friendly, caring and sincere person wherever she was.  She was quite the card player through the years as she loved to play Pitch, Pinochle, Blitz and Tripoli.  We joked as she always had a deck of cards in her purse and was always willing to show her grandchildren and honorary grandchildren how to play card games.  She was the Sunday School secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo for a number of years.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #4502 and she remained very active in the community.

She is survived by her sons, John (Cindy) Peterson, Douglas (Doreen) Peterson and Bill (Dan Costello) Peterson; grandchildren, Melissa Peterson, Travis (April) Peterson, Rebecca (Gideon) Gillispie and Timothy Peterson; great-grandchildren, Mason, Morton, Briella, Tenley and Braxton Peterson.

She was preceded in death by husband, Donald; children, Cindy and Duane; parents, Owen and Hilder Sullivan; brothers, Leonard, Elmer, Eugene, Robert and twin brother John; sisters, Helen Culligan and Ina Hajek.

Condolences for Margaret Johanna Peterson
