Mary Alice Voss, age 95, of Council Bluffs, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on May 12, 2023 at Country House Residence in Council Bluffs.
Mary Alice was born December 10, 1927 in Gordon, Nebraska to the late Sidney R. and Agnes (Hughes) Goodfellow. She graduated from North Platte, Nebraska High School in 1945. Mary Alice was a “Canteen Girl” (providing food to the troops traveling on the trains through North Platte) during WWII. She came to Omaha and worked at Woodman of the World. Mary Alice married Harry Voss, Jr. They were blessed with four children, Kerry Ann, Jill, Robin and Mary Bridget. Mary Alice was a farm wife, worked at the Red Cross and a 4-H leader. She retired in 2004 as an administrative assistant-Civil Service Employee for the Federal Government at Offutt AFB after 29 1/2years. After retirement Mary Alice volunteered at the UP Museum. She was a member of the Methodist faith.
Her family has history with Ashland Methodist Church dating back to the 1910’s. Her father, Sidney R. Goodfellow, grew up on the family farm near Ashland and graduated from Greenwood High School in 914.
In addition to her parents, Mary Alice was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Roussel and son-in-law, Dennis Otte. Mary Alice is survived by her children: Kerry Ann Otte of Wayne, NE, Jill (John) Conry of Neola, IA, Robin (Lea) Voss of Underwood, IA, Mary Bridget (Howard) Aney of Council Bluffs, IA; 9 grandchildren, Scott Otte, Brett Otte. Lori (Cory) Braunschweig, Jarrod (Elizabeth) McDonald, Emily (Shawn) Lustgraaf, Jonah (Nicole) Aney, Ashley (Jared) Harding, Courtney (Dan) Sampson, Adam (Summer) Voss, 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Camille Weesner of North Platte, NE; nieces and nephews.
