Merle “Woody” D. Woodside, 80 of Memphis, NE passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE.  He was born November 4, 1942 in Prescott, IA to Harold and Erma (Strong) Woodside.  Woody grew up in Iowa on the family farm.  He graduated from Prescott High School in 1960.   He worked as a mechanic for Lyman-Richey in Omaha for many years.  He was united in marriage to Scarlet Nissen on February 4, 1993 in Elk Point, SD.

Woody was a meticulous dresser and a social bull crapper.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, watching auctions on TV and watching wildlife outside his windows.  He especially loved spending time with his family.  In his earlier years, he was a professional drag racer.  He restored his 1974 Nova SS and donated it to “Cars for Kids”.

Merle is survived by his wife, Scarlet Woodside, children, Chylynn (Gary) Nelson, Trina McCall, Mandy (Fernando) Solis, Marcus Nissen & Austin (Stacy) Nissen;
14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and his canine companions, Toby & Penny Lane.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Erma Woodside, infant sister, Sharon Woodside; son, Joe Nissen, Jr.; granddaughter, Bethany; great-grandson, Ernie Bahm and his canine companions, Bucky, Chancey, Precious & Peki.

    So sad to read of Merle’s passing. He was the best friend I ever had. RIP Merle.
