Richard “Dick” L. Root, 70, of Ashland, NE, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Tabitha Health in Lincoln, NE. He was born December 6, 1947 in Lincoln, NE to Floyd and LaVon (Harger) Root. Dick served his country in the U.S. Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1970. On December 31, 1974, Dick was married to Margaret Pierce in Phoenix, AZ.
Dick and his father started Root’s Masonry and Concrete and Dick took over the business in 1988. He took pride in his work and was well respected. Dick provided brick work on many buildings around the Ashland area, including Casey’s and the Ashland Cemetery Directory. He was a member of American Legion #129 for 38 years and was the Commander in 1998. He was a proud member of the Post Honor Guard for 20 years.
He is survived by wife of 43 years, Margaret “Marge” Root; mother, LaVon Root-Felton; daughters, Stacey Ghumm and Michell Grell; step-daughter, Ruth Phelps; step-son, Raymond Phelps; brothers, Mike (Heidi) Root and Chris (Jan) Root; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd C. Root and an infant brother, Brian Root.
Marg, Ray, Ruth and families, I am so sorry to hear about Dick! I have so many good memories from the times I spent with all of you! You always made me part of the family. Please know my love, my thoughts and my prayers are with all of you at this time! Love you all!

Our prayers to Marg and family. Have lots of wonderful memories of Dick’s concerns for others. I remember when he headed up a group to replace the roof on our old farm house in 1987 when Dick Styskal was so sick. He did lots of those things for other people. RIP Dick………………

I am sorry for your loss. Dick was a good friend in high school.
Psalm 34:18 says “The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those crushed in spirit” May you lien on him now and may he sustain you through this time of loss.
Marge and family, I am so sorry for your loss. A good and generous heart has stopped beating, but Dick will live on in our memories forever.
