Ruth Evelyn Ballou, 93 of Waverly, NE, entered into rest on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Waverly Care Center in Waverly, NE.  Ruth was born October 28, 1920 in Phoenix, AZ to Darius Robert and Beulah May (Sanders) Leard.  Ruth attended school in Arizona through the 7th grade when the family moved in 1932 to Glendale, CA.  After graduating from Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, CA in 1938, she attended Glendale Junior College before moving to Ashland in 1939.  She continued her education at the Lincoln School of Commerce.  She worked for Smith-Dorsey (now Novartis) before her marriage.  On July 26, 1941 Ruth was united in marriage to Edward L. Ballou in Papillion, NE.  The union of nearly 66 years ended with Ed’s death in 2007.  Most of her life was spent as a homemaker caring for her family until she started working at Dr. Fricke’s dental office in Lincoln.  She worked for Dr. Fricke until she retired.

Ruth was active in the Ashland Congregational Church, Ashland Junior Women’s Club and was an avid bridge player, as well a Big Red Fan.  Ruth was also a past member of the American Legion #129 Auxiliary and Chapter BD PEO.  She had fun as a member of the Red Hat Society while living at the Legacy Terrace.  She loved to play cards with friends and family.  Cooking and watching Husker football always brought her joy, but most of all she loved her sons  and grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Ballou; parents, Darius and Beulah Leard.

She is survived by sons, John Ballou Sr. and fiancé Julie Scheetz of Lincoln, Ronald D. (Sandee) Ballou of Cedar Rapids, IA, William M. (Holly) Ballou of Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Barb Bodfield of Lincoln, John (Natalie) Ballou Jr. of Benton, LA, Jennifer Ballou of Woodlands, TX, Tyler Ballou of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren, Derek Spiczka, Branden Bodfield, Taylor Bodfield, Addison Ballou, and Aubrey Ballou.
