Shawn Charles Grieb, 51, of Fremont, NE, passed away suddenly on February 20, 2021 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, NE.  He was born August 29, 1969 in Oakland, CA to Charles and Eileen (Anderson) Grieb.

Shawn grew up in Beresford, SD, where one of his favorite things to do as a child and into his teen years was to be the first one in the swimming pool when it opened for the season, no matter how cold the weather was.  It was also where he grew to love his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, despite his mother’s objections.  Even though he did not graduate from Beresford School System he was always very much a part of the class of 1988.  He was also a member of the high school golf team.

Shawn decided to follow in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps and join the U.S. Navy.  He went to submarine school and became a crew member aboard the Hyman G. Rickover SSN-709 nuclear submarine.  Stay salty you Bastards!

Upon his release from the Navy, Shawn became a jack of all trades, first working for a floor cleaning business in Sioux Falls and then Gahl’s and Leader Printing in Madison, South Dakota.  It was there that Shawn became a father of Jacob and Erika and a father figure to Ayla Brown.

He and his family then moved to Wahoo, NE working for Berkley Envelope and then for Darling Enterprises.  It was while hanging out with his good friend and wife, John and Georgeanna Erdahl, that he met his fiancé, Christa White.

Shawn always knew how to make people smile by telling a good joke or a story.  He would also provide a shoulder to lean on.  Shawn will be greatly missed.

He is survived by many that were grateful to be a part of his life.  Survivors include fiancé, Christa White of Fremont, NE; children, Jacob Shawn Grieb and Erika Jade Grieb of Columbus, NE; sister, Tammy Grieb of Elizabethtown, KY; uncles, Steven (Cynthia) Grieb of Overland Park, KS, Lee (Sandy) Anerson of Modesto, CA and Donald Fickbohm of Sioux Falls, SD; aunts, Verna West of Athen, GA and Marcella Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces and nephews from extended family, cousins, classmates and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eileen Grieb; grandparents, Stewart and Helen Grieb, Arnold and Frances Anderson; uncle, Shernold Anderson; aunts, Ethel (Frank) Troubel, Doris Porco, Verlyn (Kenneth) Eckert, Joan Fickbohm, Maurine (Harold) Heiser; cousins, Joelle Antonson, Cynthia Silva and Trinity Jacobson.
