Sterling L. Grell, 63, of Ashland, NE, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019 at his home in Ashland, NE. He was born January 29, 1956 in Omaha, NE to LeRoy and Karen (Scheef) Grell. On March 17, 2003, Sterling was married to his soulmate Kaylene (Beckman) Mathis in Deadwood, SD.
Through the years, Sterling worked for Martin Marietta, Western Sand and Gravel and Lyman Richey. He also owned and operated Sterling’s Tree Service for many years. Sterling enjoyed working on his acreage, riding his motorcycle, driving and working his team of mules, hunting, fishing and an afternoon card game. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Sterling was also known as “grandpa attitude” and “grandpa ornery” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by wife of 16 years, Kaylene Grell; children, Matt (Andrea) Grell and Stacey Grell; step-children, Benjamin (Tina) Mathis, Brandi (James) Darnell and Amber (Casey) Janssen; mother, Karen Grell; brother, Randy (Kathy) Grell; sisters, Lori (Dave) Smith and Linda (Scott Moeller) Malasek; many grandchildren, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Grell and infant sister, Virginia Grell.
