In care of the family

Steven “Steve” McClatchey was born June 5,1951 in Tilden, NE.  Steven spent the majority of his life in Greenwood, NE where he married Marilyn (Carpenter) in 1968.  Steve and Marilyn raised their two boys in Greenwood, where they still reside and have many friends in the community. There probably are not many days that you pass by their house that there are not friends over or you would see Steve out tinkering on something in the yard or garage.  Steve died peacefully in their home on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

Everyone who knew Steve knows that has he had many great passions in life.  Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He spent quite a bit of time in the summer fishing with his boys, grandkids and friends.  A big highlight he had fishing was getting to go deep sea fishing in Mexico while on a trip with friends and family.  Although they didn’t get many fish, having the experience with family and friends still made into a great story.  And Steve could always manage to tell some pretty good fishing stories.

Steve always took great pride in his garden and sharing his homegrown produce with friends.  He always planted way more then they could ever eat, with the intention to share it with others.  He would always try to plant something at least once that the grandkids would request to see if he could make it grow, usually he had pretty good luck.  If he wasn’t in the garden you may find him in his garage where he took on woodworking projects in the recent years with his good buddy Roger.  Together they made some beautiful pieces, and had a few cocktails along the way.

Of all his passions, being a grandpa was what he was most proud of.  He never hesitated to take them to get candy at the candy shop, let them drive his truck around town, take them for shooting practice down at the creek, or getting them registered for the annual tractor pull.  He was always the first one to brag about the grandkids and their accomplishments to everyone he had the opportunity to share with, and proudly wore their team apparel and pins.  You always knew when Grandpa McClatchey was at an event because he would yell the loudest and made his presence known.

Those who knew Steve know that he was truly a kindhearted man, that loved his family, and the friends he had were friends for a lifetime.  He always had a story to tell, a place for you to stop and visit, projects going on, and didn’t seem to ever sit idol for very long.

Steve leaves behind his wife Marilyn, his two sons and their families.  Chad and Deanne McClatchey (Lincoln), and Brad McClatchey (Greenwood).  His beloved grandchildren Max, Quinn, Bryn and Cam. Steve is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Donna (Winters) McClatchey, stepfather Jess Winters, and his siblings Marsha, Scott and Rhonda.

Condolences for Steve McClatchey
