Clarence G. Schneider was born May 16, 1917 to Henry and Dora (Roll) Schneider of rural Douglas County. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millard. He farmed with his father during theĀ  depression years of the 30’s and was employed at Cudahy Ice Plant in the winter. He also worked construction of highway 31 from Q street to Elkhorn. He entered the US Army on Dec. 24, 1941 and left for service Jan. 17, 1942. He served in various areas until June 1945 when his field artillery unit was sent to Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in Febr. 1946. He worked briefly for Palm Bros. and Kurcl motor pool in Omaha before returning to farming south west of Bennington where he remained until 2001. Clarence was married to Ethel Behrendt on June 21, 1945 during a brief 5 day furlough. One son, Steven, joined them in 1954. He was a longtime Bennington area farmer and had been an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post #266 and VFW Post #2503.

Clarence was very proud of his two grandchildren. He loved having a big garden and giving away the produce. He enjoyed volunteering and helping out while he lived at Autumn Point in Ft. Calhoun. Playing cards, coin collecting and watching baseball were his favorite things to do. In his younger years, he loved raising livestock.

Clarence is survived by daughter in law Sally Schneider; grandson Nathan and fiance Sheila Gordon, granddaughter Elizabeth; sisters in law Margaret Behrendt, Elda Misfeldt; nieces and nephews Barb, Les, Lonnie, Connie, Kathy, Merri, Pat, Marty and Jean.
