In Care of the Family

Robert (Bob) Otis Parkins of Mead passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at home surrounded by family.

Robert was born March 21, 1936 in Mt Vernon, Oregon to Clifford & Francis (Huff) Parkins. May 23, 1956 he married the love of his life, Esther Mae Steen. To this marriage 8 children were born and many foster children were loved and cared for.

Robert worked on the Fremont Police Department before he began driving truck. For 28 years he drove for Hinky Dinky then retired driving with Wright Trucking out of Blair, NE. Along with driving truck he was top salesman for Miracle Maid Cookware where he earned numerous trophies and trips.

Robert’s passion for his family was beyond measure. He led by example, showing the importance of family and the value of every moment. He worked endlessly for his family and was always the first to lend a hand when help was needed. He was a friend to anyone; the only stranger to him was someone he hadn’t met. His love and knowledge of the outdoors was awe inspiring. He took his family deer hunting every November since 1964 and now there are 3 generations hunting and working together. Our hearts are forever broken with the loss of this amazing man but the Legacy of Bob Parkins or “Big Deer” as many have known him will always be carried on.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Mae Parkins of Mead, Nebraska, children, Esther (Bob) McGee of Silver Springs, Florida, Rose Parkins of Lynnwood, Washington, LeEtta (Doug) Rogers of Nampa, Idaho, Robert Parkins of Fremont, Nebraska, Dawn Parkins of Mead, Nebraska, Gene (Laura) Parkins of Fremont, Nebraska, Catrina (Tim) Mittan of Maxwell, Nebraska, Casey Parkins of Lincoln, Nebraska, 55 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, sisters, Irene Fields of Muldrow, Oklahoma, Linda (Cliff) Meland of Fairdale, North Dakota, Marjorie Williams, Ocean Park, Washington, daughter-in-law, Pam Parkins of Crawford, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Calvin Leroy Parkins, sisters, Louise Henderling, Dorothy Means, Mary Alice Leach.

Uncle Bob will always have a piece of my heart. He was so full of love that he took anyone in, even me when I needed it most. Uncle Bob’s love showed me just what a family unit was. I will never forget the memories and lesson that were taught and learned. (even if I didn’t like them at the time) You will forever be loved and missed. ❤️

Uncle Bob has left foot prints across my soul that will never fade. The sound of his voice and the touch of his hand were both soft and hard with love. His guidance and teachings will reach all generations to come. He is not gone because he lives in us all. I have loved him since the first time I remember meeting him. His mustache was always the thing about him that made me laugh because it tickled my cheeks when he would give me a loving hug. Love you always and forever for so many reasons. You were an amazing grandfather to my daughter and helped her become the most amazing woman she has become. Thank you would never be enough. 💘

I didn’t have the pleasure of having many conversations with this fine man, but I do know he raised fine children, who then raised fine grandchildren. Thank the heavens for kind and generous men who recognize the value of family.

You took my heart to heaven with you dad…but because of our faith in Jesus, I know we will see each other again. You’ve been gone a little over a month now, and the pain and loss I feel is still so great. The world was definitely a better place with you in it! You were the best father ever, and I thank God for the honor of being your child. You taught me SO much and you made me the person I am. Thank you for loving my mother and all eight of us kids. I will miss you every day of my life… Rest In Peace daddy…til we meet again. 🦌
