Rudolph “Rudy” J. Meduna, 93 of Colon, NE, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Nye Legacy Health & Rehab in Fremont. He was born December 26, 1921 in Weston, NE to Frank C. and Stella (Sabatka) Meduna. After he graduated from high school in Weston, Rudy went to the University of Nebraska. He heard the government was looking for young men to work in factories to build airplanes. He transferred from the University to the Fry Aircraft School and worked part-time at a grocery store. Rudy’s father was a WWI veteran and encouraged Rudy to seriously think about volunteering to be in the service. At the age of 20 years he volunteered to be in the Air Force and fight in WWII. He was a Tech Sergeant in the 10th Combat Cargo Squadron of the 10th Air Force. He was stationed during the war in the China-Burma-India front or better known as the CBI (Burma Hump). Rudy served honorably until his discharge on September 13, 1945. After his return home from the service, he got a job as a mechanic with United Airlines. He worked his way up to flight line chief while working in Cheyenne, WY where he received his CCA airplane and engine license. He was later transferred to Omaha and San Francisco. He worked with United Airlines for 5 years before he left to go back to Weston and work on the farm. Later, he and his wife Darlene moved and started the family farm near Colon, NE. Rudy later farmed with his two sons Bob and Don until his retirement. Rudy was also a Pioneer Seed Sales Representative for 42 years serving many area farmers. Upon retirement he and Darlene moved to Cedar Bluffs, NE. In 2008, he moved to the care facility in Fremont.

Rudy was a Charter 50 year member of the Saunders County Livestock Association where he served for several years on the Board of Directors. He was a member of the American Legion Post #265 in Colon, NE, member of Forty-Eight, a member of Wahoo Council #1833 Knights of Columbus, the St. John Neumann 4th Degree Assembly #3303 and Chalice Club member.

Rudy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colon, NE. He loved and served his Parish with a deep faith. He also was a strong supporter of Catholic education and Bishop Neumann Catholic High School.

Rudy was an avid Husker fan. He loved football, basketball, and baseball. He and his wife Darlene traveled to every away Husker football game. He was a member of the University of Nebraska Husker Beef Club and Rebounders Club.

He is survived by sons, Robert (Carol) Meduna of Colon and Don (Kim) Meduna of Colon; daughter, Linda Meduna of Tucson, AZ; sister, Helen Novotny Cavaleri of Omaha; 6 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene (Bahm) Meduna; parents, Frank C. and Stella (Sabatka) Meduna; brothers, Leonard and Stanley Meduna; sister, Loretta Reitmajer.
