Gary L. Novotny, 64 of Valparaiso, NE passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 at his home. He was born May 30, 1957 in Wahoo, NE to Kenneth and JoAnn (Severyn) Novotny. He graduated from Raymond Central High School in 1975. Gary was united in marriage to Sandra Birchem on May 19, 1984 in North Bend, NE. He worked for the City of Lincoln as a Utilities Supervisor for 42 years before retiring in 2018.
Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming, watching NASCAR, Redskins football, Husker football, singing karaoke, dancing to polka music, and playing baseball and softball.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sandy Novotny, daughters, Jenny (Jason) Schmutte of Roca, NE, Nicole (Justin) Kavan of Cedar Bluffs, NE and Jessica (Chuck) Gotchal of Valparaiso, NE; grandchildren, Ava, Jackson, Madeline, Dalton, Alyssa, Paisley and BerLynn; mother, JoAnn Novotny; sisters, Cindy (Gary) Dudek, Diane (Tim) Swinscoe; brother-in-law, Dan Kadavy.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Daisy Novotny; granddaughter, Lily Kavan; father, Kenneth Novotny; sister, Laurie Kadavy; nephew, Kevin Dudek; father-in-law, Leonard Birchem.
I’m saddened to hear of Gary passing. I will always remember his sense of humor and crazy laugh. He had great talents and especially singing some of my favorite songs! I’m so lucky to have known him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
