Michael “Mike” Kerry Royse, 73, of Lincoln, NE entered into eternal rest on May 23, 2024, at The Arbors Memory Care in Lincoln, NE. He was born February 22, 1951, in Des Moines, IA to Dean and Rosemary (Miller) Royse. Mike attended grade school and high school in Pocahontas, IA, where he grew up with his 8 brothers and sisters. Mike served his country during the Vietnam War as a Private Second Class in the U.S. Navy. He was an aircraft mechanic working on the Lockheed P3 “Orion” anti-submarine aircraft.
Mike was wed to Christine “Jill” (Best) Royse from October 2, 1976 until 1988. On May 5, 1989, Mike was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Kellner-Royse. With 35 years of marriage, Mike and Ruth’s union was a testament to unwavering love, mutual care and devotion, and moments that will be treasured eternally. Mike worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad for over 33 years as a conductor, switchman, and brakeman. He was an avid golfer, admired classic cars, loved reading and going on walks, and enjoyed listening to an array of music, including his favorite the Beatles. Above all, he found his greatest joy in spending time with his family.
Mike was a devoted and caring husband, a phenomenal father, and an extraordinary grandpa. His unconditional love and support were a cornerstone of his family, and his warmth, kindness, and goofiness brought joy to all who crossed his path. Mike leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, each one a testament to his irreplaceable presence.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann, children and spouses, Zachary (Ryan) Royse of Omaha, NE, Alicia (Jordan) Zlomke of Kearney, NE, Trenton (Becca) Royse of Omaha, NE and Madison Royse of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jillian, Calli, and Aidan Royse, Oliver Zlomke, and Skylar and Brooklyn Royse; siblings and spouses, Steve (Virginia) Royse, Joan (Tim) Garity, Mark (Karen) Menke, Julie Jackson, Jeanine (Steve) Ellenwood, Bill (Roberta) Royse, Lisa (John) Gammel, Sue (Chris) Root; sisters-in-law and spouse, Irene Scheidt, Bernice (Dave) Schiller, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Rosemary Royse, aunt and uncle, Jean (Roy) Menke, uncle, Dr. William Miller, infant son, Lucas Royse, and infant grandson, David Zlomke.
Sorry we can’t make it. Mike was a great uncle. I never remember him putting someone down or yelling. When you were a guest in his house he always made sure you were comfortable.
We want to extend our sympathy to Mike’s family. We knew Mike from Church and school. He always greeted you with a smile and loved sharing what his children were doing. Rest in Peace, Mike.
