In Care of the Family for Future Designation

Chester P. Knuth, 93 of Cedar Bluffs, NE, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 17, 2014.  He was born on October 5, 1920 in Cedar Bluffs to Peter and Minnie (Jurgens) Knuth. He was raised on the family farm near Cedar Bluffs and graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School. As a young adult, Chester worked in farm fields stretching from Kansas to North Dakota. On March 4, 1946, he married Agnes Sudik at St. Wenceslaus Church in Wahoo. Carrying on the family tradition, they established their home on the Jurgens family farm and were blessed with 6 children. Together Chester and Agnes farmed the land until he retired in 1985. He also spent 24 years as a Saunders County Supervisor representing the people of rural Saunders County.

Chester enjoyed playing his accordion and listening to polkas and waltzes. He enjoyed dancing and teaching his children how to polka. Grandpa “Chet” was known for his humorous sayings and could put a smile on the face of anyone. Exploring the Black Hills with family became a favorite road trip and place to visit.

In his later years he volunteered at St. Wenceslaus School and while there he earned the nickname “School Grandpa.” His farm remained a part of his everyday life. He loved to ride his “little” John Deere around the acreage and was always busy working around the farm – mowing, pulling weeds, or just looking at the corn. Being able to live on the farm was very important to him and he was happy to be able to stay there until his death.

He is survived by children, Mary Ellen (Jerry) Specht of Wahoo, Margaret (Mario Machado) Knuth-Sudik of Canary Islands, Spain, John (Sharon) Knuth of Omaha, James (Meg) Knuth of Omaha, Robert (Mary Lane Thompson) Knuth of Wichita, KS; son-in-law, Jerry Beaver; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Mary Ann) Knuth; sisters, Arvilla Hansen and Vi Bibow.

Preceded in death by wife, Agnes; daughter, Katherine Beaver; sister, Irma Dinnell; brother, Glenn Knuth; brothers-in-law, Francis Bibow and Glenn Hansen.

Msgr. Daniel Seiker will be officiating.

Pallbearers are John Knuth, Jim Knuth, Bob Knuth, Mark Specht, Jim Specht, Eric Beaver, and Thompson Knuth.
