Bernice J. Noonan entered into eternal rest at the age of 89 on October 20, 2023.  Bernice was born in Touhy, NE on January 9, 1934, to Henry and Bessie (Musiel) Maly.  She attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Grade School and graduated from Wahoo High School in May of 1952.

On September 26, 1955, Bernice married John P. Noonan Jr. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo.  They made their home in rural Colon where they raised their 8 children.

Through the years, Bernice worked at Farmers Union CO-OP, and Colling Drug Store.  She then stayed home to raise her family and help John on the farm.  In the mid 1970’s she began working at the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher.  Two years later she transferred to the Saunders County Assessor’s Office where she worked for 24 years.  From 1990 through 1993, along with her regular duties, she spent the summers photographically documenting all of the homes in rural Saunders County.  In 1999, she ran for County Supervisor and was a public servant to the residents of Saunders County for 4 years.

Bernice was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Colon; the Catholic Daughters of America; Altar Sodality; the American Legion Post #265 Auxiliary, where she served as Chaplain for many years; and the VFW Post #4502 Auxiliary.  She enjoyed arranging the many class reunions for her graduating class, even making a book of biographies of each classmate for their 55th reunion.  She loved her family and her Catholic faith.  She enjoyed attending the many sporting events, band concerts, marching band competitions, and dance recitals of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She and John traveled to over a dozen countries and much of the United States to visit their children who were serving their country in the military.  Many family and friends gathered at the farm for her delicious pork, sauerkraut, and dumplings.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, and tending her acre of wildflowers.

Bernice is survived by her children, Marialyce (Rich) Weideman, Julie Noonan, Kathy (Steve) Lewis, John P.  III, (Jenny) Noonan, Ann (Jerry, Jr.) Nice, Charlie (Roxana) Noonan, Jean (Jack) Henry, Jim (Sue) Noonan; her grandchildren, Timmy (Emily) Wingert, Jessica Wingert, Autumn (Brandon) Spicher, Julia Lewis, Cassie (Chris) Roberts, John P. Noonan IV,  Erick (Genevia) Cole, Conor Noonan, Ethan Noonan, Austin Henry, Kyle Henry, Jake Noonan; her great-grandchildren, Coraline & Trig Roberts, and Clark & Austony Cole; her sister, Maxine (Bruce) Williams;  sister-in-law, Alice Noonan; brother in-law, Roger (LouAnn) Noonan and her many nieces, nephews, step grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; and family friends.

Sweet Bernice! Our church ministered at Saunders House before Covid. She was always so sweet and just loved the Lord. I am sad to see this quite by accident. Prayers for the family.
