Dale L. Freeman, 85, of Mead, NE, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo, NE. Dale was born August 27, 1938 in Burwell, NE to Jesse and Laura Freeman. Dale served his country in the U.S. Navy and following his honorable discharge he started a 20-year career with the U.S. National Guard. On November 17, 1973, Dale was married to Connie Iola Sickler in Lincoln, NE.

Dale was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Mead, NE, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #82 and the Mead Fire Department. Dale was a cowboy who loved competing in rodeos and coaching sports. He enjoyed woodworking, cooking his legendary roast beef, fishing, raising show pigeons, all things Husker, and drinking beer with his friends in his garage man cave. He and Connie never missed attending his grandkids activities, always showing up an hour early to get the “good” seats.

He is survived by children Dan and Sheri Freeman, Wahoo, NE, DeEbra and Jeffrey Randall, Omaha, NE, Jacque and Tracy Burns, Kearney, NE, Kimberly and Carl Walker, Navarre, FL, Karen and Gary Roenneburg, Georgetown, TN, Kevin Hill, Grand Island, NE, Kenny and Dalene Hill, Peoria, AZ; 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife Connie who passed on 5/16/2016.  Parents, Jesse Clarance Freeman and Laura Leola Conner; daughters, Michelle Lee Freeman, Debbie Sue Ruzicka of Homer, Alaska; daughter and son-in-law, Micki and Kenny Novak Wahoo, NE; sisters and brothers, Florence and Leo Rieske, Primrose, NE, Robert and Elsie Freeman, California, Gerald Ora Freeman (died at 1 year old in 1921), Burwell, NE, Delbert Lee Freeman and Wilma Lola Freeman, Burwell, NE, Minnie Ilene and Dale Lindsey, Burwell, NE, Betty June Freeman and Daniel Augustine, Ord, NE, Lola Marie Freeman and Carl Augustine, Portland, OR, Norma Jean Freeman and Roland Black, Hanford, CA, Margery Mae Freeman and Ralph John Zulkoski, Eleyria, NE: Lila Fae Freeman and Stanley Schneider, Burwell, NE, Marvin Jesse Freeman and Sharon Garska, Taylor, NE; and first wife, Lorraine Janice Freeman and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews.

    George, Roma, Bob and I were often guests at his husker parties. I think Connie might have been the biggest fan. I think of them both often. Rest in peace and rise in glory.

    I worked with Dale many years in the National Guard. He always had a Smile and was willing to help in any situation. He will be missed.
