The family invites family and friends to the service and lunch afterwards. The community is invited to come and share their memories and stories of Dennis at the Church’s Fellowship Hall in the afternoon.

Dennis supported the Salvation Army, and the family asks that any memorials be made to the Salvation Army.

Dennis Ray Else, 72, of Colon, NE, passed away on Friday, March, 1, 2024 at the Saunders Medical Center, Wahoo, NE. He was born November 11, 1951 in Kearney, NE to Delmer and Lila (Larson) Else.

Dennis grew up in Overton, NE graduating from Overton High School in 1970 where he enjoyed playing sports including running, medaling in state track, and making All- State in Football. After high school, Dennis joined the Army and then followed his passion of farming and ranching. Dennis married Cheri (Kring) in 1973 and had 5 children: Tagge, Gary, Scott, Monte and Regan, and they bought a farm by Ansley, NE in 1978. After some challenging years on the farm, Dennis and Cheri moved to Overton, NE in 1983 and he began his career as a Nebraska Warehouse Examiner. In 1987, Dennis and Cheri moved to Mead, NE when Dennis became a Federal Warehouse Examiner until he retired in 2011. Dennis moved to Colon, NE in 2014 where he lived until his passing.

Dennis had a passion for agriculture and was very proud to have been able to keep his farm through tough times until his retirement. He especially enjoyed running cattle, taking care of baby calves, and later, buying calves with and for his grandkids. He also enjoyed coaching his kids and attending their activities, sports, horse races, following current events, and traveling to see his family and friends. Dennis took great pride in his kids and cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren making great efforts to attend their activities.

Dennis was preceded in death by his mother Lila Else (Larson), his father Delmer Else,  granddaughter, Ava Else and long-time co-worker and good friend Richard Miller.

Dennis is survived by his former spouse Cheri Else (Mead) and children Tagge (Cannon City, CO), Gary (Mead), Scott and his girlfriend Janae (Wahoo), Monte and his wife Lori (Lander, WY), and Regan and his wife Kate (Seward), Grandchildren Randy and wife Halie, Ashley and Boyfriend John Hauschild, Nikita Kopejtka and her boyfriend Austin Marshall, Sara, Ansley, Justin, Maddox, Tyler, Caleb, Easton, Brianna, Peyton, Zoe, Rydesa, Aidan, Asher, Gavin, Hunter, and Tucker; great-grandchildren Alice, River, Jaxon, Owen, brother Rodney and his wife Gaylene Else (Brighton CO), brother Lonnie and his wife Stephanie Else (Elm Creek) and longtime co-workers and friends Robin Holtmeier (Colorado Springs, CO), Dan Delong (Lamoni IA), Al Nokes (Minden), and Steve Becker (Kansas City, MO).

    I visited with Dennis at lincoln race course and columbus races. Very knowledgeable horse player.saw him in seward a few times said he was going to grandkids games. I’m a retired mail carrier and we would talk federal retirement lol. I’d always ask him how much rain or snow he had . And he’d ask how much I had in ulysses. He was a good guy and will be missed.

    I went to school with Dennis at Overton. He was two year ahead of me, but was always a kind and considerate man.

    My condolences on your loss; however, in time, you will speak his name, keep his memory alive and be able to smile at the good times he left with you.
