Emily M. Benda, 97 of Wahoo, entered into eternal rest on August 5, 2013 at the Saunders Care Center in Wahoo, NE.  She was born July 29, 1916 in Kimball, SD to Pete and Emily (Chihak) Kratochwill and she was one of six daughters.  Emily attended Pleasant Grove Country School and Kimball High School in Kimball, SD.  Her family lived in the Platte, SD area until moving to O’Neill, NE where they lived for 45 years.  Emily was united in marriage to Lyle F. Benda on June 16, 1941 in Kimball, SD.  She moved to the Wahoo area in 1969.

Emily enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and entertaining friends.  She loved to go dancing with friends.  Emily was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Altar (Rosary) Society, and the Catholic Daughters.

Emily was preceded in death by husband, Lyle F. Benda; sisters,  Isabel Leiferman, Alta Leiferman, Edris Hoffman, and Norma Horsley.

She is survived by daughter, Marlene (John) Jonas of Wahoo; grandchildren, Patrick (Tiffany) Jonas of Charleston, SC and Michelle (Scott) Rushing of Lake St. Louis, MO; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Olivia, and Jonathan Rushing; sister, Dorothy Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces and nephews.
