Gene C. Breunig, 82 of Wahoo, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Fremont Area Medical Center.  Gene was born August 12, 1930 in Arlington, NE to Charles and Marie (McMahon) Breunig.  He attended St. Wenceslaus School and graduated from Wahoo High School in 1949.  Following high school, Gene attended Chadron State College.  He served his country in the U.S. Air Force until being honorably discharged in 1952.  Gene was married to Berneta Nelson on March 11, 1954.

Gene and his three brothers owned and operated the Breunig Rendering Plant for 50 years.  He retired in 1987 allowing him time for hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with all the people he enjoyed, especially his family.

Gene has been an active member of St. Wenceslaus Church; he served on the financial committee for 10 years.  Gene was there when Bishop Neumann High School was being planned and remained a strong supporter throughout the years. He loved sports and always attended his children and grandchildren’s games.

Gene is survived by wife, Berneta; children, Diane (Bill) Rezac of Weston, Gloria (Tom) Klug of Leawood, KS, Stacy Breunig of Dallas, TX, Leslie McDonald of Omaha, Steve (Jill) Breunig of Weston, Amy Needham of Wahoo; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Reenie) Breunig of Wahoo; sisters-in-law, Helen and Joyce Breunig; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, John and Betty Dietz.

He was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Marie Breunig; brothers, Joseph and Jerome Breunig; sister, Margaret LaPour.
