Gary D. Gillespie, 81, of Wahoo, NE, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 2, 2024 at his home in Wahoo, NE.  Gary was born August 31, 1942 in Omaha, NE to Bennett and Helen (Eby) Gillespie.

Gary graduated from O’Neill High School in 1960.  Gary received his bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University in 1964.  He received his master’s degree from the University of Nebraska in 1968.  Gary taught school in Broken Bow, Walthill and West Point, Nebraska.  He sold life insurance and was president of Life Underwriters.  On July 25, 1970, Gary was married to Mary Harders in Wahoo, NE.

Gary’s greatest joy in life was first of all his relationship with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, then his wife, children and grandchildren.  He liked to substitute teach at many schools in Saunders County.  He would tell the students they were special by writing on the blackboard “You are special! You are unique! You are loved!”.  Gary’s most important day of his life was when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on October 13, 1985 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Gary loved Jesus very much and was consumed by His love.  His favorite subject to talk about was Jesus.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary (Harders) Gillespie; daughter, Justina Gillespie; sons, Joel (Joanna) Gillespie, Joshua (Amber) Gillespie; grandchildren, Alanna, Brianna, Joshua, Corianna and Samantha; sister, Dianne (Steve) Lawson; many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennett and Helen Gillespie.

    Gary was always so joy-filled! God allowed this world to know and love him for 81 years, but we will have all eternity to listen to his jokes and see his smile! May God comfort his family until that time arrives.
