Geraldine M. Chmelka, 91, of Wahoo, NE, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo, NE. She was born November 6, 1928 in Clarkson, NE to Joe and Blanche (Bos) Jonas. Her parents moved to Fremont where she graduated from Fremont High School. Following graduation, Geraldine worked as a private secretary for Reynolds Insurance Agency until she was married. On June 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Joe F. Chmelka, Sr., of Prague, NE, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont, NE.
Geraldine was a homemaker and also worked as cook at Saunders County Care Center and Reliable Services. She enjoyed her family, gardening, sewing and crossword puzzles. She was a member of St. Joesph Catholic Church in Colon, NE and St. Ann Altar Sodality.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Chmelka, Sr.; parents, Joe and Blanche Jonas; granddaughter, Amber Styskal; brother, Joe Jonas; sister, Darlene Hurlbut.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandi (Michael) Prokash of Green Bay, WI, Salli (Dan) Kemerling of Wahoo and Ann (Richard) Styskal of Lincoln; sons, Gary (Gloria) Chmelka of Lincoln, David Chmelka of Seymour, WI and Joe Jr. (Leslie) Chmelka of Cedar Bluffs; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-granchildren; brothers, Dennis Jonas and David (Jane) Jonas; and many nieces and nephews.

Prayers for Geraldine and condolences to all the family. 🙏🙏🙏 She always appreciated having Holy Communion brought to her at her apartment on Sunday mornings. She always made a point of thanking us for that Sacrament.
Will miss her as she was such a sweet lady. She always had the biggest smile on her face when I would come to the house.Always enjoyed bringing her Communion on Sundays & was always so thankful for us bringing the Body of Christ to her.I loved to get her talking about cooking & baking all those great Czech things we loved to eat & also when was still able to do all this for her family. A great lady & will be missed. My condolences to the family & may God bless her soul.
Geraldine was one of the sweetest ladies I knew. We could all learn the virtue of patience from her. Our loss heavens gain. God Bless! Prayers for Geraldine and the family.

My sincere sympathy. Geraldine was a very kind and gracious lady. I enjoyed her friendship and time spent together at St. Ann’s Altar Sodality and our Semi-Colon Extension Club in Colon, NE.
