Joyce was born in Miles City, Montana on August 28, 1930 to Harold and Louise (Hanson) David. She was the middle of five children and throughout her life, maintained close ties to her siblings. At Rose Hill Elementary School, she always did her spelling and grammar lessons, and to our knowledge, never made a spelling error or grammatical mistake. She graduated from Benson High in 1948. After raising her three daughters in Omaha, in 1976, she married the love of her life, Jerome, who adored her, and moved to Wahoo. The two of them spent 32 happy years enjoying their families and many friends in Wahoo and in Mesa, Arizona, where they had a winter home. A few years after Jerome’s death in 2008, she moved to Lakeside Village Independent Living in Omaha, where she appreciated her good health and a lively social life, diminished only slightly when she moved to Assisted Living in the last two years.
Joyce was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church for the entirety of her life. She served as a Red Cross volunteer in Omaha and Wahoo for more than 25 years, chairing the Saunders County bloodmobile in the latter part of her tenure. Joyce was someone to be reckoned with. In her family and community, she was legendary for her impeccable appearance, perfectly kept home, and religiously attended Friday beauty shop appointments. We are certain she’ll save a place in heaven for the ladies who knew how to do her hair.
My sincere sympathy to her family. She was a pleasure to have known.
