Karen Ann Smith, 80 of Wahoo, NE passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 16, 1943 in Wahoo to Benjamin and Helen (Smead) Croghan. She attended Northward grade school and graduated from Pomona High School in 1961. On March 21, 1959, she married Frank Smith at the Northtown Church in Pomona. She attended College of Saint Mary before earning her degree in nursing from Southeast Community College in Lincoln.
Karen worked at the Haven House, Saunders County Care Center, University Medical Center, and Clarkson Hospital before retiring from Rose Blumkin Jewish Home in 2008.
Karen was very active in church activities, volunteering at Hospice & Home Healthcare of Saunders County and involved in the book club at the library.
Karen is survived by her children, Paul (Heather) Smith, Jill Smith, Susan (Ron) Mullinnix, Daniel Smith, Cory (Stephanie Trudell) Smith; grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Jennifer Smith, Anthony Smith, Benjamin Smith, Christopher (Taylor) Smith, Christina Vech, Andrew Vech, Brittany (Garrett) Rech, Sage Smith; great-grandchildren, Kayden, Jayden, Nya, Zander, Kohen, Micah, Jaxsen, Kai; brother, Bennie (Irmgard) Croghan; sister-in-law, Alvina Croghan; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Helen Croghan, husband, Frank Smith; brothers, Bill (Frances) Croghan, Bernard (Dolly) Croghan, Richard Croghan; sister, Helen (Bob) Mathis.
