Lillian V. Tomcak, 91, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at her home in Lincoln.  She was born October 1, 1921 in Wahoo, NE to Frank and Victoria (Bartek) Furasek.  She attended district #74 country school near Weston, NE through the eighth grade. After graduating, Lillian, along with other girls from the area, took the train to Omaha to become housekeepers for the wealthy. For about eight years, Lillian would work all winter in Omaha, returning home in the summer to help work on the farm.   After  marrying Frank Tomcak, she became a farm wife, homemaker and mother.

After Irma and Francis left home, Lillian moved to Lincoln, joined the workforce, and became a cook at the Big G cafe. She spent her last 15 years as a cook at Holiday Inn in Lincoln, retiring from that position in 1986.  Lillian was always in good spirits and never complained. She had a smile for everyone. She enjoyed embroidery, crossword puzzles and baking for her beloved family in her spare time. She delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was loved by them in return. Some of them enjoyed teasing her by calling her “Grandma Shorty”.

A current member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lincoln, Lillian also attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lincoln for 40 years, and was a member of St. Vitus Catholic Church in Touhy, NE for over 50 years.

Lillian is survived by the following: Children: daughter Irma (Don) Schulz of Lincoln, son Francis (Deb) Tomcak of Lincoln.  Grandchildren: Tim (Janelle) Schulz, Julie (Kevin) Plautz, Brian (Angela) Tomcak, and Renee Tomcak. Great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Joshua, Mattie and Grace Schulz, Dustin and Jonathan Plautz, and Emma and Olivia Tomcak. Sister: Regina Tomsicek of Prague.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Victoria Furasek; brother, Frank Furasek; and Frank Tomcak.

She will be missed by her family and friends.
