Margaret “Lucky” L. Masek, 90, of Valparaiso, NE, entered into eternal rest, holding her rosary and with her children by her side on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at her home in Valparaiso, NE.  She was born October 5, 1932 near Dwight, NE to John and Frances (Dvorak) Walla.  She attended Bethlehem Star School until the age of 13, when she was needed by her father to drive the grain trucks.  On December 27, 1950, at the age of 18, Margaret was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Masek at Dwight Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight, NE.  They were married for 62 years.

Through the years, Margaret worked as a model for Coca-Cola, a sales clerk at Sears and this is where she was given the name “Lucky”, a sales clerk at Havelock Furniture and most recently at Sam’s Club.  She would still be working today if her health would have allowed.

She enjoyed music and dancing, especially polkas and Elvis.  She loved listening to her three sons play in local bands.  She also enjoyed baking kolaches for her family.  Margaret taught her children the importance of family and to always be there for each other.  She was a devoted catholic, who could be found praying the rosary over and over in times of distress.  She always wanted to be there for her family, but she never wanted to be the center of attention.

Margaret was a member of Sts. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church, PCCW, FCSLA, American Legion Post #371 Auxiliary, VFW Post #10491 Auxiliary, Red Hats Society and the Valparaiso Senior Center.

She is survived by children, Robin (Ronald) Regnier of Raymond, NE, Mark (Candy) Masek of Louisville, NE, Owen (Jenny) Masek of Davey, NE and Glen (Carrie) Masek of Ceresco, NE; son-in-law, Bernie Siu; grandchildren, Shannan (Jeff) Kramer, Ryan (Jen) Regnier, Tyson (Amber) Regnier, Melissa (Mark Witherell) Masek, Stephanie Siu, Brandan (Lindsey) Regnier, Rosey Masek, Cassandra (Julian) Valencia, Regina (Keith) Neemann, Courtney Masek, Tyler Masek, Christopher Masek, Jordan (Lyndsey) Masek, Kendra Masek and Alexander McPherson; 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Lawrence Masek; daughter, Susann Siu; daughter-in-law, Susan Masek; grandson, Benjamin Masek; great-granddaughters, Agnes and Tucker Regnier; parents, John and Frances Walla; siblings, Mary Decker, Frances Collett, Lillian Pekarek, Josephine Benes and Johnny Walla; infant siblings, Frantisek Walla and Amellia Walla; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

I remember Lucky from my days working at Sears in Gateway in the 1970’s – she worked in TV’s and Carpet dept. while I worked in the linens, curtains, lamps and home accents (those were all located on the second floor of Sears). She always had a smile. I remember her more recently when I would see her as a Greeter at Sam’s store on North 27. My prayers go out to you and your family as she will be missed.

Mark, I’m so very sorry to hear this. You were always so kind to me & I remember your support when I lost my Dear Mama in 2006. I always loved visiting you when you’d come in to Lamp Rynearson. Peace be with you all.
