Marie Josephine Chapek, 74, of Wahoo, NE, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo. She was born October 2, 1941 in Wahoo, NE to Adolph and Marie (Vrana) Smetak. Marie attended the Catholic Schools in Wahoo. After graduation, she went to work for Mutual of Omaha in the Policy Reference Department. On October 30, 1965, Marie married Ernest Chapek at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo and to this union were born Nancy Marie and David Ernest.
Marie was a typical farm wife who helped make fence, took lunch to the field, and helped bring home machinery for the next day. She even rode the bean buggy, spraying weeds. Ernie and Marie were proud parents of their children, recognizing their academic and athletic accomplishments. Marie was a willing volunteer for many organization including: CCD teacher, election worker, county fair worker, Waverly Camp Creek worker, helped with Christmas on the Prairie and the Church Bazaar. Marie was a care giver to her mother for six years. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren compete in sporting events and 4-H shows.
She is survived by children: Nancy (Erin) Marotz and David (Jill) Chapek; grandchildren: Tyler and Morgan Marotz, Kerstyn and Baylie Chapek.
She was preceded in death by husband Ernest Chapek.
I am so sorry that this happened to the family, especially so soon after Ernie’s passing!
Marie was such a sweet, caring person. She will be greatly missed by all!
Mary Lou Chapek-Hogg
Marie was a wonderful lady, devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
We knew Ernie and Marie since college at UNL.
She always had a smile and great laugh. We so enjoyed being with them both from dinners, parties, polka dances, weddings, etc.
I agree with the prior message that it is so sad to lose her especially so soon after losing Ernie:
Our Prayers to David and Nancy and the entire family.
I’m so sorry to read about Marie’s death. When I was a little girl, she was the big girl in the neighborhood. She would stay with me when my parents were gone for the evening and we always had a good time. My prayers to her family and friends.
